Print bookmarks with your book and save money

When you want to use one, a bookmark can never be found. However, book publishers have been using bookmarks to market their books for a very long time. Printing your own bookmarks does not have to be another costly expense. In fact, with proper planning and organization you could have as many bookmarks as you do books with little or no expense.

Most paperback book covers use the exact same card stock as used to make bookmarks. In most cases off-set book printers (used to print a large quantity) will print a bookmark on the excess card stock and trim the bookmarks and book covers separately. This reduces printing waste and often will cost no more than then the time needed to cut the bookmarks.

This will not always work since a book cover may not allow extra white space when it is set up on a press. Also, there is one remaining challenge: getting a book ready to go to the printer is difficult, so adding a bookmark may just be too much to get ready all at the same time. It may just be easier to print them separately if you feel bookmarks are important to your marketing plan.

So, whatever printer you are printing your books with, make sure you ask them about this option. They will need to tell you how much extra space is available so you may determine the dimensions and design of your bookmarks
